Have a Well-Balanced Nature
「バランスのとれた人間性を備える」
バランスのとれた人間とは、何事に対しても常に「なぜ」という疑問をもち、これを論理的に徹底して追求し、解明していく合理的な姿勢と、誰からも親しまれる円満な人間性をあわせもった人のことをいいます。
いくら分析力に優れ合理的な行動を貫くスマートさを備えていても、それだけでは、まわりの人々の協力を得ることはできないでしょうし、逆にみんなからいい人だといわれるだけでは、仕事を確実に進めていくことはできません。
私たちがすばらしい仕事をしていくためには、科学者としての合理性とともに、「この人のためなら」と思わせるような人徳を兼ね備えていなければなりません。
A well-balanced individual must have a rational mind that always asks “why” and logically searches out the answer, as well as the emotional well-being to be amicable and friendly with everyone.
Simply excelling in analytic ability and rational behavior is not enough to win the cooperation of those around us. Not will simply being regarded as a good-natured person enable us to proceed with our work smoothly.
To achieve outstanding results, we must have both the rationally of a scientist and the warm-hearted virtue that makes others want to cooperate with us.

ハッピーであること。
皆が喜ぶこと
思いやりは、「利他の心」
とも言い換えられます。
つまり、自分の利益だけを
考えるのではなく、
自己犠牲を払ってでも
相手に尽くそうという、
美しい心のことです。
ビジネスの世界においても、
この心が一番大切です。
「情けは人のためならず」
というように、思いやりは
巡り巡って自分に返って
きます。
相手を大切にし、
思いやる「利他」の行為は、
自分たちが損をする
ように見えても、
長いスパンで見れば、
必ずすばらしい成果を
もたらしてくれるのです。
- Be Kind and Sincere
Business is based on
partnerships and must
bring happiness to all parties.
Being kind and considerate
can also be described as
“altruistic.” In other words,
it means having a beautiful
mind that restrains a person
from satisfying his/her own
desires and instead drives
him/her to help others,
even if it means making sacrifices.
I believe this is the most important
mindset to have in the
business world, too.
There was a time when,
much like Kyocera, many
Japanese companies
acquired American companies;
however, we do not hear
of many success stories
like Kyocera’s acquisition
of AVX.
Following these other mergers
and acquisitions, those
Japanese companies ended
up withdrawing from
the market or selling off
the acquisition at a large loss.
I think that a difference in
mindset is what separates
our successful acquisition
of AVX from those that failed.
The difference lies in whether
you are sincerely thinking of
the other party or merely
focused on your own interests.
In classic Chinese literature,
it has been said that “Pride
brings loss, and humility
receives increase.”
Even though it may appear
as though we are not benefitting
from our altruistic behavior
of caring for the other party,
we are assured wonderful
results over the long term.

中国には「積善の家に余慶あり」
という言葉があります。
これは善行を積んできた
家には、よい報いがある
ということです。
世の中には因果応報の法則
があり、善きことを思い、
善きことを実行すれば、
運命をよき方向へ
変えることができます。
当然、仕事もよい方向へ
進めていくことができるのです。
善きこととは、人に優しくあれ、
正直であれ、誠実であれ、
謙虚であれ、などという
人として最も基本的な価値観です。
昔から「情けは人のためならず」
と言われていますように、
善きことを積み重ねていくことで、
私たちの人生も
よりよいものとなっていくのです。

Serve Others Unendingly
The Law of Cause and
Effect exists in
this world. If you accumulate
good deeds,
you will be rewarded in life.
Altruistic practices
fall into the category
of good deeds.
What’s important in life
is thinking good
thoughts and doing good deeds.
Being kind to others
and practicing honesty,
sincerity and humility
may sound simplistic,
but these are the basic,
important traits of
human existence.
You can turn your life onto
a better path through
the accumulation
of good deeds.
